Yeah. Understand that Carvin used to bastardize the X100Bs before they left the factory. The hand-wired "Hot Rod Mod 1B" on the early fuzzies is pretty grotesque.

Understand that they ...

That's basically the final pre-re-issue amp, just before Hot Rod Mod 1B.

Here's a schematic for the Hot Rod:

I've only seen a few for sale, and never bought one. I like an EVM12L. It runs very clean and loud.

Yes, it's buffered on both ends, with a 3-way switch for the level, and a footswitch for the bypass.

60% mode just drops the supply voltage to the phase inverter. The power tubes don't get driven as hard, and the output stage distortion is generated by the phase inverter, with the power tubes running ...

It's not likely that the bias circuit diode is backward, but you can remove the tubes and make sure that the bias voltage is negative. Looks more like a heater short. The PC board isn't supposed to lo ...

You'll want flux remover to clean off the flux unless you're using no-clean solder. Flux is corrosive (no clean goes pretty harmless at room temperature), and flux will make the solder flow nicely. Th ...

Nice work. For six-string, I like EMG ACS pickups. They miss true acoustic sound as badly as a piezo under the bridge, but the way they miss sounds much better than piezo solutions I've had. On an old ...

The first X100Bs had two-pronged cords. Theres a "death" cap from the chassis to hot or neutral through a switch. Set the switch to hot, have a cap failure, grab your guitar neck and a groun ...

Hot Rod Mod 1B is a hand-wired mod to the lead channel. The triode that distorts the most on the lead channel has it's plate supply modified. The preamp supply for the final triode is dropped and bypa ...

Yeah. The older M22s are great. They're not the "just for metal" monsters that some folks think they are.

It depends on how much character you want the speakers to add. The clean channel seems to perform best with the cleaner high-wattage speakers. EVM12L, the old Carvin BR12s, maybe Eminence Delta-Lite. ...
