Sounds like a cool one! Shesky, you're really into the small-builder
thing eh? Can't wait to see it.

I love the headstock shape,, what's the angle cut across the headstock,, a inlay going there? Maybe a darker colored wood? |

Thanks, guys.
I was playing around with that carve on the headstock. I shaped it from one piece of maple, but it proved to be almost impossible to get the recesses for the tuners to the exact same plane as the cutout part of the headstock. So for the real thing, I'm either going to add the raised piece (including cutouts for the recesses) as an overlay, or inlay the cutout part of the headstock with a contrasting wood. We'll have to see what the wood wants to do once I cut out the headstock.
Here's the awesome mahogany blank that shesky tracked down:
And the neck blank glued up. You can't tell from this pic, but there's nothing there that's not flamed except those two strips of padauk:

No one is more excited than me (except maybe Rick). I chose the washburn p series and a few others for inspiration but really left as many things up to Rick as possible. I wanted simple woods w/o a figured top but its coming out amazing already. I choose satriani's set and am excited about that. Most of the other ideas are Rick's and I will keep it that way. He really seems to do wonderful work and he's a great guy to top it off.

Truss rod slot routed:
Headstock angle rough-cut (you can see the flame in the black limba in this one):
Headstock outline (three-color flamed maple was a lucky coincidence):

Other than my router, that band saw is the most-used power tool I have. It's a relatively inexpensive, no-frills model, but it does its job very well.
I wish I'd had the money to buy a bigger one; it can only resaw boards about 6" wide. One of these days, maybe I'll be able to upgrade. |

Maybe I'm easily entertained, but seeing blocks of wood being turned into a cool instrument has me glued to this thread. |
