My friend has a CARVIN PRO BASS (from the mid 80s???) and we were trying to figure out how many watts it puts out. The serial number is Z-69228. There are no other model numbers I can find. Any ideas?????

This head?

Depends on which model you have (PB150 or PB300) and what the final impendence of your speakers is - maximum of 300 watts at 2 ohms on the PB300.

Mildly related side note - i have one, with the 2 - 1 X 15 Magnalab loaded cabs. Sweet rig - oodles of tone variations using both EQ's on the same channel.

Yes, that is the one. How can you tell the PB150 apart from the PB300?

I won't see my head for at least another week, so I'm going from memory.....I *THINK* the same sticker that has the serial also has the model # on it.

Yep,

Looked at the head when we loaded back into the rehearsal hall - mine say PB-300 on the top line of the serial # sticker.

Well, the only other thing I can think of is to compare the count of output transistors. IIRC, Carvin amps of that vintage generally came in 2 versions, loud and damn loud - the only real outside difference being that damn loud had twice as many output transisitors as loud.

It'll be Saturday before I see the head again. Hopefully I'll remember to count up the power transistors and post my finding - gotta lotta stuff lined up for this weekend so it may get overlooked. If I don't post back by Monday AM, please bump the thread to remind me.
