He was certainly a character, that's for sure. I had spoken with him a couple times over the years, and I personally never had a problem with him.

It's odd that he died almost 2 weeks ago, and they family (evidently) just announced it yesterday. Some of the things I've read online indicate the family is being a little vague about the whole thing. Leave it to Ed - controversial to the end.

His death was announced right after he passed, the family just didn't issue a statement until now.

I bought my first bass from him in the early 90's. Definitely a character....
