Wow, not only going to look great, but the pictures are awesome to help those of us who would love to tackle a job like this ourselves! Great job!! |

Thanks. I've been trying to remember to take lots of pics as I go along, hopefully enough to help anyone who's thinking about building one. |

Body edges rounded to 1/4" radius. Not yet blended into contours, and still also have to manually round over the contour edges.
(Resizing made all the smooth lines look bumpy...click on pics to see full size.)

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the control cavity...

I didn't post any updates last week, doing mundane stuff such as making templates and sanding:
I made a template using "standard" humbucker route dimensions first, but didn't like the amount of space that would have been left around the pickups, so I made this one specific to the DiMarzio Mo'Joes that are going in this guitar. |

Yeah, look at the grain on that MDF template. |

It looks good to me, I don't even have the tools/skills to make a template. It's a good thing Carvin has kits.
Edit: Can't type. |

That part's not difficult, but it is exacting--you do have to get things laid out exactly right before you start routing the template or else you're doomed from the start. I've very rarely made a template and had it come out perfect on the first attempt.
Once I get a template perfect, I generally make that the master template, and cut another one from it for general use. |

Maybe I should start with something like a birdhouse or feeder before building a guitar/bass. |

Oh yeah, a nice mahogony wren house with a flamed maple top, a rosewood perch and stainless nails. Throw a couple of abalone dots on it! The birds would love it.

The perch sounds brighter if it's ebony. |

Until the birds leave a few droppings on it, then the tone is crappy. |
