So I had a Legacy 3 complete with foot switch and carry bag and sold it because at the time I was playing mostly through my Mesa Boogie rectoverb and wanted to fund a new project. Well now I have sellers remorse (is that a thing?) anyway so I'd like to see if I can find one used!

Looking forward to hearing from someone out there on this...

Thanks in advance!

You still have the Legacy combo, right?

An idea / suggestion (having owned one) is to snag an attenuator or loadbox so you can run it how you like, and have reasonable output, or have a master volume added.

After that, use an overdrive pedal to push the 2nd channel into the higher dirt territory that the 3rd channel on the Legacy 3 has. I loved my old VL212, but it was too big to keep in the end.

Conversely, the V3m will get the Legacy tone, but it takes some tweaking, and lacks a little bit of the punch of the larger tubes, but you already have the platform.

At any rate, a loadbox would be less than finding a replacement amp, especially if you pop for a new L3 (Carvin has 'em on ebay).

Also, sorry, not selling it back; it's too good of an amp, though if I had the space, I'd consider trading the combo for the head, but that is unlikely to happen until I find a new place to live.

I hope this helps maybe save you some cash, or find a use for what you have Smile

Thanks for the suggestion... I love that VL212 as well but what a beast to lug around... You probably are right, given the array of amps I have I shold likely just keep tweaking until I get that "tone" the ever elusive "tone" one seeks...LOL!

I totally understand that hunt, and I think it changes from day to day, or hour to hour as ear fatigue sets in Razz

I'll at least say that Carvin made the VL212 a sane weight for its performance. Mine was heavy due to CL80 speakers, though it did not hold a candle to the ~92 pound Peavey Duel 212 I have on loan to a friend. I also have a Jackson JG2 amp head alone that weighs about 70 pounds (double layer particle board with giant transformers adds weight). I think the combos were pretty smartly designed. Just wish I had more space. I have enough for the L3 and a 1x12 cabinet, so I had to make it count.

As for a load box, I'd suggest something from BadCat or 2Notes; not just a regular attenuator, but a reactive device that should prevent blowing up of the amp.

There are also Lpads that can work as passive speaker attenuators, though they're more for lower watt applications, though two of them in tandem would probably work. There are so many options out there. I just hope you find your tone without having to go through the whole buying/selling fiasco that often happens.

You know I have considered just trying the Legacy pedal they offer as an option...might be best of all worlds for me... Think

Oh, yeah, not a bad idea. I know on the Carvin audio forums someone said they tried two and both were noisy, but the rest of the reviews seem positive. Instant Legacy....just add power amp.

Interesting that the website says they will be available in late spring... perhaps there was a "noise" issue and they are fixing it....
The more I think about it the more excited I get to try this route...

That could be....

I know they were shipping some briefly, before the factory closed, and some during, but they were never on sale (always $500 a pop).

If I can eventually find one cheaply, I might eschew the big brother, find a good power amp, and compact things even further, plus have added flexibility. Sure, no reverb or effects loop, but technically not needed since the FX loop is just an insert between pre and power amp sections.

Now if someone could make a good Legacy model for something like the Atomic Amplifire, Helix, or something from Fractal, I'd be all over that. Nothing really exists like that currently.
